ABOUT FREEDOM RANCH

KRISSY HAMILTON

DIRECTOR

My name is Krissy, founder of Freedom Ranch Outreach Education.  Thanks to a mom who adores animals, my life has always been surrounded by nature.  Growing up on the Chattahoochee River in Alabama, I had remarkable opportunities to watch great-blue herons, bald eagles, musk rats and river otters hunt and play along the banks.  These experiences began a lifetime appreciation for all wildlife.

I came to Hattiesburg to attend Southern Miss as a biology student.  Not too long after, I discovered the zoo world and began volunteering, helping keepers and learning the unique characteristics of the animals and their care. For many years, I had the opportunity to work with a diverse animal collection and developed educational programs for our local zoo. Eventually, I decided to take a step of faith and open Freedom Ranch so that I could share the stories of the animals in even more ways.

I believe that conservation education is key to saving our wildlife.  Dr. Seuss said it best, "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it's not." I formed Freedom Ranch in order  to educate, inspire and empower people of all ages to care for and enjoy our wildlife.  When was the last time YOU enjoyed the great outdoors?

Why "Freedom Ranch?"

Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

2 Corinthians 3:17

Freedom Ranch comes from a desire to live a life of service to both people and wildlife.

To be able to use the God given gifts and passions to help people recognize the everyday wonders and miracles of nature all around them is a freedom in itself.
